The staff and volunteers of ICH organized and held "The Celebration of Light and Kindness Day" for the children selected by their peers as being the kindest during this past school year. This is our 6th year to hold the event, which is hosted by ICH staff and volunteers, at Galina Alieva's Dacha. 24 children attended this year on the 27th of May.
Fr om the very first moment, on the road leading to the village where the celebration is held, the children met characters from fairy tales that walked with them a long way to the "Kingdom of Light and Kindness," through different "Kingdoms." The "Kingdoms" were: Kingdom of Jolly Old Ladies, Kingdom of Shadows, Swamp Kingdom, Kingdom of Sultan, Kingdom of Kind Guys (pirates), Singing Kingdom and a kingdom wh ere kids were being cast with foam-rubber bricks. In every kingdom, the kids had to pass different examinations and competitions. All the participants of the program-children and adults- were going through a Big Fairy Tale of Light and Kindness. At the end of their way, the children met the King and Queen of Kindness that welcomed them and invited them to their Kingdom. Upon their "arrival" to the Kingdom, the children were surprised with tables loaded with fruits, salads, meat, breads, sweets and drink. Singers were present and performed many wonderful songs.
Afterwards, the children and volunteers played games in the open air, swam in the pond, and walked around the village as a group. As usual, kids wrote down their most precious dreams on sheets of papers and then tied them to balloons. The balloons were released and flew away with the wind while the children hoped their dreams would be fulfilled some day. Every child received a gift that was individualized for them. It included hygiene items, bath towel, make up kit, underwear, T-shirt, socks, toys, gloves, cap, sleeve-protectors for swimming, umbrella, make up bag and pajamas.
Also, the staff and volunteers continue with the preparations for the Christian Summer Camps that will be held at the end of June and beginning of July. The children will come from needy families and from different orphanages. We have witnessed many lives changed during these camps and expect more this year.
The branch office of ICH-Vodkinsk is also busy helping the needy families that come to the Center to seek help. Several families received assistance with food and clothing. Every week, up to 12 boys from needy families, come to The Center after school classes to play games, have tea with the staff, discuss problems that they face in life and in general, given special attention that they would not have elsewhere. They talked about the discipline and order they need to continue in life. The conversations were quite useful for them as after that they begged pardon for being rude with one another.
In May, ICH assisted 15 needy families with food and clothing.
